Mike Tyson lives an interesting life. He came to fame as a ferocious boxer in the 80s and 90s. Though he’s one of the greatest boxers of all time, his career came with some controversy. Such as biting Holyfield’s ear off and getting into trouble with the law. But now he’s getting a new type of attention. Cartoon Network has decided to give him a cartoon. And it’s called “Mike Tysons Mysteries” for their Adultswim section.
In the cartoon, Mike Tyson goes around solving mysteries with his adopted 18yr old Chinese daughter, a gentleman ghost, and an alcoholic pigeon played by the hilarious, Norm McDonald. It looks and feels like the classic Hanna-Barbera cartoon, Scooby-Doo, but with drinking, curse words, and Mike knocking dinosaurs, robots, and a chupacabra out with his fists of destruction.
The show relies on unpredictable humor almost like Family Guy and ever since it premiered at San Diego’s, Comic Con, it’s been a show that everyone's been talking about.
Mike Tyson himself comes off as a loveable giant. He receives messages from his pigeons from people that need his help. And part of what makes him so charming, is that he makes fun of himself. Such as when he mispronounces certain words which are comical. He even sings a song “Ain’t got no time for bird sex. I wanna fly.” All while going on adventures trying to solve mystery.
Like his own life, the cartoon comes out weird, but that’s what makes it funny. Mike is perfect for this type of absurd comedy. And if you’re a fan of silly irrational comedy, then give it a shot. It’s on every Monday night on Cartoon Network at 12am. "No more time for bird sex. Yeah, yeah, yeah."
