20 End of Summer Drinks


Summer is winding down and we are all looking forward to the final barbecues and outdoor parties over the next couple of weekends. The best parties have the best drinks. Here is a list of our 20 favorite summer drinks and recipes that will have your End of Summer Parties Lit.


20 End of Summer Drinks:

1. Watermelon-Coconut Cooler

watermelon-smoothieBlend 8 cups frozen cubed watermelon with 8 ounces lemon vodka, 7 ounces simple syrup and a 17.5-ounce can coconut juice. Serve with watermelon wedges. How to make simple syrup: Dissolve 1 cup sugar in 1 cup water in a saucepan over low heat; let cool.

2. Old Cuban

Bacardi-Old-CubanMuddle a handful of mint leaves in a shaker with 1 1/2 ounces rum, the juice of 1 lime, 1 ounce simple syrup and 2 dashes bitters. Shake with ice; strain into glass and top with champagne.

3. Blueberry Slush

blueberry-lemonade-slushyPurée 4 ounces tequila, 2 ounces blue curaçao, 1/2 cup blueberries, the juice of 3 limes, 1 tablespoon sugar and 3 cups ice until slushy; pour into 2 sugar-rimmed margarita glasses.

4. Champagne Punch

images-1Mix 1 bottle champagne, 2 cups seltzer, 1 cup peach nectar and 1/2 cup brandy in a punch bowl; add sliced peaches and berries.


5. Rosemary Gin & Tonic

135-37675-cucumberrosemary-1368327518Mash a lime wedge with 4 cucumber slices in a glass. Add 2 ounces gin, a sprig of rosemary and some ice; top with tonic.


6. Melon Sangria 

IMG_7065Mix 1 bottle white wine, 1/2 cup green melon liqueur, the juice of 3 limes and 1/4 cup sugar in a pitcher; chill. Garnish with melon balls


7. Painkiller

painkillerForget the Summer is ending by drinking a Painkiller. Mix 1 oz. orange juice with 1 oz. coconut milk then add in 4 oz. pineapple juice, 2 oz. rum and pour over crushed ice and add nutmeg for garnish.


8. Rum Punch

rum-punch-2Mix 1/2 oz. lime juice
4 oz. orange juice
4 oz. pineapple juice
1 1/2 oz. dark rum
1 1/2 oz. light rum
Add a little grenadine for color. Pour over ice and sprinkle with nutmeg and garnish with an orange slice and a cherry.


9.  Dirty Banana 

godiva_chocolate_covered_bananaYou will need 2 oz. Tia Maria (coffee liqueur),
 2 oz. dark rum, 
2 oz. rum cream liqueur
, 4 oz. milk
, 1 oz. simple syrup, 
3/4 banana
 and Ice. Fill blender 3/4 way with ice and all ingredients. Blend until thick and smooth. Pour into glasses and sprinkle the top with cinnamon, allspice or nutmeg or add a floater of Tia Maria.


10. Outlaw Lemonade

refreshing-lemonade-2Get your party Lit with this Outlaw .You will need 5-6 lemons, 1 cup of water, 1 cup of sugar, 1 1/2 cup Jack Daniels, ice and water. Juice all lemons, set aside fresh juice. Cut up the rind of one lemon, place in a medium saucepan along with 1 c. water and 1 c. sugar.  Bring to a boil over medium heat.  After the sugar is dissolved, turn off heat, strain and let cool. In a 2 quart pitcher, combine lemon simple syrup, lemon juice and Jack Daniels.  Fill pitcher with ice and water – stir well to combine.

11. Sunset Punch 

Sunset-PunchTo make you will need 8 ounces bourbon, 8 ounces white vermouth, 1/2 cup fresh lemon juice, plus lemon slices for garnish,1/4 cup simple syrup 12 ounces chilled ginger beer. In a punch bowl, combine the bourbon, vermouth, lemon juice and syrup. Add the ginger beer and lemon slices and serve over ice.

12. Bahama Mama

Bahama-MamaNo summer is complete without a Bahama Mama. To make:  mix 1/4 ounce coffee liqueur 1/2 ounce dark liqueur 1/2 ounce coconut liqueur 1/4 ounce 151 proof rum, Juice of 1/2 lemon, 4 ounces pineapple juice. Pour all of the ingredients into a cocktail shaker filled with ice. Shake well Pour into a Collins glass with cracked ice. Garnish with a strawberry or cherry.

13. Thai-Basil Sangria

UnknownThis makes 12 servings: You will need 1/4 cup water, 8 Thai basil sprigs, Zest of 1 lemon, peeled in 3-inch strips Zest of 1 orange, peeled in 3-inch strips 2 bottles chilled Pinot Grigio, 3/4 cup brandy, 1/2 cup fresh orange juice, strained Ice, Chilled club soda and 12 thin orange slices, for garnish

In a small saucepan, combine the sugar and water and bring to a boil, stirring to dissolve the sugar. Remove the saucepan from the heat. Add the basil sprigs and lemon and orange zests. Let the syrup stand, stirring often, until cooled to room temperature, about 20 minutes. Discard the basil sprigs and zest strips.

In a large pitcher, combine the basil syrup with the wine, brandy and orange juice. Pour the sangria into ice-filled glasses, top with club soda and garnish each drink with an orange slice.

14. Real Man's Margarita

BeerMarg_012514_-010-webSalt the rim of a beer mug; fill with ice. Add Mexican beer, a squeeze of lime juice, a splash of tequila and hot sauce to taste.


15. Pineapple Rummy 

Unknown-1Fill a glass partway with sparkling cider and ice. Add a shot of dark rum and a few pineapple chunks. Simple enough. 


16. Strawberry Ginger Punch

12 ounces fresh strawberries, hulled, halved or quartered if large (about 3 cups), divided

1 3-inch piece ginger, peeled, thinly sliced, divided

1/2 cup (packed) fresh basil leaves, divided

1 1/2 cups brandy

3 tablespoons fresh lime juice

2 12-ounce cans club soda

Combine sugar, 1/2 cup strawberries, half of ginger, and 1/3 cup water in a small saucepan. Bring to a boil, stirring to dissolve sugar. Reduce heat and simmer, stirring occasionally, until berries soften, about 3 minutes. Let cool. Strain and set syrup aside.

Muddle 2 cups strawberries, 1/4 cup basil, and remaining ginger in a large jar or bowl. Add brandy, lime juice, and reserved syrup and stir to combine. Chill at least 30 minutes and up to 2 hours to let flavors meld.

Strain mixture into a large punch bowl, pressing on solids to release as much liquid as possible.

Add club soda and remaining 1/2 cup straw-berries and 1/4 cup basil. Serve over ice.


17. Tequila Paloma

Paloma - Hola Tequila BookPour a shot of tequila into an ice-filled glass; top with grapefruit soda.


18.  Derby Martini 

martini_drink_grand_derbyShake 1 1/2 ounces bourbon, 1/4 ounce Lillet, 1/2 ounce cherry brandy, 1 teaspoon lemon juice, a dash of bitters and ice in a shaker; strain into a martini glass.


19. Cucumber Pimm's Cup 

cucumber-pimms-cup-ck-lIngredients: 2 cups prepared lemonade, 1 large cucumber, cut into 1/2-inch-thick slice,1 cup Pimm’s No. 1, chilled, 1 cup ginger ale, chilled, 6 cucumber spears, mint leaves.  Combine prepared lemonade and cucumber slices in a large pitcher. Refrigerate for 8 hours or overnight. Add Pimm’s and ginger ale to pitcher. Pour 1cup mixture into each of 6 ice-filled glasses. Garnish with cucumber spears and mint leaves, if desired.


20. Frozen Bligh’s Blood Mojito 

69059c7d788954a9434c3a83530e9fb9You will need 2.5 oz. Captain Bligh’s Rum (St. Lucian Rum), 
4 oz. blood orange puree, 
2 slices of fresh limes, 
8 large fresh mint leaves 
1 oz. teaspoon raw brown sugar soda splash and Ice

Muddle the fresh lime, 6 mint leaves and brown sugar in a Mojito glass. Fill a martini shaker with ice. Add Bligh’s Rum and blood orange puree. Blend until frozen. Pour in the frozen mixture of ice, rumand puree over the top of the lime mint mixture. Splash the top with soda and garnish quickly with remaining mint sprig.
